The foods we choose to eat have once again proven to play a significant part in reducing the risk of developing a debilitating disease. This time it’s Alzheimer’s and the brain boosting foods that are included in the Mediterranean Diet. The recent study conducted by researchers at Columbia University, found that study participants who ate moreĀ olive oil-based salad dressing, nuts, fish, tomatoes, poultry, cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, fruits, and dark and green leafy vegetables and ate less red meat, organ meat or high-fat dairy products were less likely to develop the disease.
So what would this Alzheimer’s Prevention Diet look like if we were to plan out our 3 meals plus a snack? Here is an idea:
Breakfast
skim milk
oatmeal with blueberries and walnuts
herbal tea
Lunch
salad made with spinach, chopped parsley, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, fennel, and white beans
a red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing
whole grain crackers
cranberry juice mixed with sparkling water
Snack
an apple with natural peanut butter
nonfat yogurt
Dinner
whole grain bread dipped in a little extra virgin olive oil
grilled fresh fish
roasted broccolini
whole wheat pasta with herbs, tomatoes, and garlic
red wine (optional)
Dessert
fruit salad topped with fresh mint
